Just for Blog’s Sake…

anberlin is in town

anberlin isn’t in town… but they will be next month! i basically wanted to post something and didn’t feel like making a new banner for the post, like i usually do! call me lazy but i’m trying to work on a logo that i have come up with nothing of value so far, so i want to get back to that…

the reason I used the anberlin banner is because i wanted to post something i read on the lead singers blog, The Modesty Writers Guild. there is a lot of good stuff on his blog, as i mentioned in a previous post. so if you are in a mood to think and really search your heart after reading his posts, head on over there!

i read this post earlier, and it really caught my attention. these emotions and feelings are normal associated with the negative. but this benediction puts them into a new perspective! these are things we all should be praying:

A Franciscan Benediction

May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.

My first tattoo…

25 10 2007

i’ve been getting a lot of requests to see my tattoo so i figured i’d throw a picture up here. i was going to take it with my camera, but its dead. tried the cell phone, but it sucks. so here is a pic of my brother Drew and his tattoo, which is the same thing, same place as mine.

Drews tattoo

we got it for 2 reasons:

  1. we had a great friend, Aaron Huth, who unfortunately past away just over 4 years ago. we were in a band together and spent a great deal of time with him outside of the band stuff. he was as original as they come, if you didn’t know him you could hang out with him and he’d make you feel as if you’d known him all your life. this was his first tattoo and we wanted to remember him with it.
  2. the tattoo is in hebrew, it reads “forgiven” or “He forgave”. faith is something that is a big part of my life. and i believe that Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to die for all of our sins and by dying on the cross, forgave everything and anything we have done wrong.

so yeah, let me know how you like it… and if you are wondering why there is no caps in my post, read the previous post.

i think i don’t like capitalization anymore…

24 10 2007

i think i might start posting all my blogs with no capitalization. what do you think? i know it’s hard enough to read my blog as it is but i have seen it done one other blog(Stephen Christian, lead singer for Anberlin, super good blog) and thought it was cool and different. don’t get me wrong, that would be the only reason for doing it, to be cooler than cool.

i try to come up with as many things as i can pull off to set myself apart with out looking like a total idiot. it’s not so much i want attention, although i’m sure it is some of it, but i’ve always liked the people who were doing the “different thing”. and i felt like i was a little too normal growing up and now i have the chance to be “that guy”. for Christ(sorry, can’t get away without capitalizing His name) sake, i have a handle bar mustache right now! Some people hate it, others love it. believe it or not it reminded of this verse in the bible as i was writing all this:

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.” —John 15:18-20

it kinda keeps me going when someone doesn’t necessarily like what i have done with cloths, design, my facial hair, etc. it think, “great, if they wouldn’t do it than it’s probably something different and interesting!”. in that same idea when i face a hard time with my faith, spiritually or physically, i feel like i must be doing something right! i know this isn’t always true, and this doesn’t mean I go around trying to piss others off just so I feel that i’m being a “good christian”. but if someone questions why in the world would i think that or tells me that it’s ridiculous for me to think this or that way. those times help to reassure me that i’m doing good by making others think about it and actually showing others what i believe in. i think a lot of christians struggle sharing their faith with others in fear of being made fun of or thought differently of, when in fact thats the idea! if we if they think your weird or different… good, Jesus said they thought that about him too! we are in good company! if people just think your he same old, same old… maybe you should think about doing something different.

Yeah, Everyone Thinks It’s Funny…

National Porn Sunday – Oct. 7th 2007

National Porn Sunday

It’s late, but I wanted to post something about the importance of today… it’s NATIONAL PORN SUNDAY! No it’s not what you think… it was started by the guys at XXXchurch.com. They are a ministry that started a few years ago by handing out Bibles at porn shows and conventions. And has now escalated into a full on anti-porn ministry that has changed countless lives and actually helped porn stars actually get out of the porn industry. Now I must warn you, this ministry isn’t for the faint of heart, and by that I don’t mean they say or do anything inappropriate. But they do get in there and actually minister to the people in the industry instead of standing out side picketing, shouting, and condemning those who attend these conventions. For some Christians that just ridiculous! Who ever heard of such a thing… hanging out with those in need, talking respectfully to them, building a relationship with someone and ministering to them with your life? I think I’ve read about Someone in the Bible who did that. Check it out, they GET IT DONE! I’ll write more about these guys in the coming weeks!

Don’t Believe the Hype! Vol.3

4 10 2007

These are the random moments that I see when I’m out and about. It really shows us all that everyone/everything isn’t what they/it’s cracked up to be!

I forget where I was when I snapped this shot. I just couldn’t believe the “smart guy” in front of me was driving a $70K sports car and hanging his bare foot out the window! Come on man?!?! Redneck-fab, baby!!
